One of the UNSW Built Environment’s greatest strengths is its diversity, not only in terms of its particular mix of disciplines, but also in its teaching staff, many of whom have distinguished professional as well as academic credentials.
Equally important is the Faculty’s diverse, highly qualified and highly motivated student body whose engagement is so central to the success of our degree programs.

During one’s undergraduate career, depending on the particular degree program, the teaching and learning experience at UNSW Built Environment includes lectures, tutorials, studio projects, exhibitions, seminars, computer labs, field trips, research training and opportunities for directed individual study.

The Faculty’s programs are designed to be challenging and to encourage students to set and achieve high standards of performance as they progress through their degrees.

2008 Research Link Grants Program

To enhance and support the research-teaching culture in the Faculty among both staff and students, the Faculty will be providing a limited number of grants of $1000 for undergraduate students to work with academic staff on staff-nominated research projects.

Research projects nominated by staff will be advertised by the Faculty to all eligible students. Project nominations from staff must be on the one-page form and need to be returned to Chrisanthi Emmanoulidis (RC 2044) by 5th May.

Projects nominated by staff will be reviewed to make sure that they provide clear academic content for the students (not only clerical work). There is no limit, to the number of nominated projects that can be advertised to students. (The number of projects UNSW Built Environment will support will depend on both the quality of the proposed projects and available funds; in 2008 that is likely to mean support for up to 5 or 6 projects.)

In addition to the project nomination form, is the Research Links Grants information page (click here).

Matching of students to projects will be done on the basis of:

  • (a) the student's statement about what they hope to gain from participation in the research,
  • (b) their skills and experience as indicated on their application,
  • (c) their most recent session WAMs, and
  • (d) input from the staff who have nominated the project.

The aim is to announce the nominated staff projects to students by 7th May, receive their expressions of interest by 23rd May, and announce the supported projects immediately thereafter.

The Research Link Scholarship Program is a joint initiative of the Associate Deans (Education and Research) who will be responsible for its administration.
