Associate Professor Susan Thompson
Susan joined the FBE in 1991 and since that time has established an impressive suite of research achievements however measured.
Her work has focused primarily on social matters such as cultural diversity, community renewal and healthy cities. She has invariably approached such issues through the lens of qualitative techniques as a powerful means for understanding the complexities of the interrelationships between, people, places and planning.
Through publications, grants, conferences and media channels she has explored the bridges between academic research and professional practice around a paradigm of planning with people at its centre.
Carrying at time heavy administrative burdens in her role as head of the urban planning program, her achievements are all the more meritorious.
Maria Kordjamshidi
Maria's work, for a recently submitted PhD, deals with assessment of the thermal performance and efficiency of houses. It addresses the energy demands they make and how these might be reduced and better regulated.
Making important contributions to sustainable building design, her work has already won two other industry awards and has spun off into conference and research papers.
Her PhD was jointly supervised by
Professor Deo Prasad and
Dr Steve King.
