Client-side Image MapsImage Maps allow hyperlinks, to different places, from different parts of an image. There are two types of image maps, "server-side" maps and "client-side" maps. Server-side image maps are server-specific and will be discussed here. For information on "server-side" image maps, see the WWW FAQ - Image Maps section. Three shapes are allowed when defining imagemap areas.
In addition, it is possible to define a "default" hyperlink that is associated with the parts of the image that are outside the areas defined in the shapes. The image is displayed in almost the normal way. The only addition is the "usemap" attribute, which lists the "name" of the section the browser uses to calculate the active areas.
