M PHIL
The MPhil aims at developing students' research competence, creative
thinking and problem solving skills. The largest component within the MPhil is the
research project. This offers students the opportunity for self-directed learning with
the benefits of individual supervision and the cognate development of research skills
through directed learning.
The MPhil is a research degree with a coursework component, comprising 72 Units of Credit.
A thesis, awarded 54 Units of Credit, embodies the result of an original investigation.
The thesis may take the form of a written dissertation (40,000 words max) or a combined
submission, comprising a design component and a written dissertation.

The coursework component normally comprises three courses (totalling 18 Units of Credit):
