Interior architecture is a design discipline that focuses specifically
on interior environments and all aspects of their spatial, structural
and material assembly.
What does an Interior Architect do?
Interior Architecture is one of the
most creative and challenging design careers on offer today.
As an interior architect you will be
designing the internal space of a building we use. That could
be in a home, a shop, an office, a shopping complex, a hotel, a museum, a sports stadium, a restaurant,
"inside".
That means as an interior architect you have
the power to influence not only how we live but also how
we work, rest, eat, recover and have fun.
In fact, the work you do as an interior architect can have far reaching
consequences not only for our
environment but also for the wellbeing of those using the space you have created.
Of course, we are not just talking about developing the design skills you can use locally. Your
opportunities for work and design creativity are much greater because the interior architecture
degree at UNSW Built Environment is
recognised in many places across the globe.
Why choose Interior Architecture over Interior Design?
It is easy to be confused because these two disciplines share a common ground. When it comes to making a choice, ask yourself these simple questions,
do I want to be able to:
- Design with a greater range of skills and resources?
- Be more involved in a built environment design project?
- Have more influence on a new design project?
- Communicate on the same level as the project's architect(s)?
If your answer is yes, then consider a Bachelor of Interior Architecture (BIA) at UNSW
Built Environment.
Why do Interior Architecture at UNSW Built Environment?
As the first of its kind in Australia, the BIA Program is a
leading degree for
developing strong design skills through active learning and participation.
The Program provides an ideal environment
to nurture your design ability and
independent creative thinking.
Where possible, the Program adopts
a practical hands-on approach using "real life"
situations to facilitate greater understanding.
There is also the opportunity to partake in the
international exchange program to
complete part of your study in another country to further broaden your horizons in
this design field.
By the way, the Program maintains excellent links to industry and the profession,
both in Australia and abroad to foster
greater opportunities for work and further study.
Most importantly, you will be
assisted and guided by a team of committed professional
staff, student mentors and industry professionals.
How do I know Interior Architecture at UNSW Built Environment is for me?
Here are some questions to ask yourself, that may help in your decision making:
- Do you get excited when you hear words like: "creative", "design" and "innovative"?
- You can't wait to make a difference that will have a real and positive impact on people and the
environment?
- You possess the ability to, not only see the "whole picture", but the small details that make
up this picture?
- Does the world fascinate you, and you want to able to draw on elements from history, culture and
nature in the work that you want to do?
