Career

The MUDD course has been in existence for ten years. On completing the course most graduates start their careers working for urban and architectural design consultants. Some already head their own professional practices in urban design and allied design areas and receive a number of awards. Others have gone on to careers in academia or to doctoral studies at major international universities such as the University of Tokyo and the National University of Singapore. Yet others already hold senior positions in the public service. The network of MUDD graduate now extends across ten different countries reaching from the Americas to Eritrea via Asia and Australia. The new interactive network allows graduate to communicate and share urban design issues.

Hear from the Graduates

Nadira Yapa Mendia - Sri Lanka MSc Environmental Science, MUDD

Apart from teaching me the fundamentals of urban design, the MUDD course helped change my frame of reference and way of thinking - an essential, but difficult to achieve, transformation. It also exposed me to leading practitioners in the field, which gave me the opportunity to work with one of the foremost urban design firms in Sydney. Currently, I’m involved in the design and construction of a dedicated bus transport network linking a wide range of land uses in Western Sydney, which is an area starved of public transportation facilities. Now I’m working on the kinds of projects that I’ve always hoped I could be involved with, and having fun doing it!

Clair Billingham - UK BSc (Hons) Town Planning, PGrad Dip Town Planning, University College London

As an urban planner, the MUDD program has enabled me to consolidate, build upon my skills and more fully understand the myriad of elements that are involved within the urban development and design process: this diversity is often lacking in an undergraduate planning course. The MUDD program has enabled me to become an integral part of an urban design team rather than a single element in the urban design process.

Giancario Cerutti Di Ludovico - Venezuela BArch, MUDD

I am working for a multidisciplinary design company with offices in Australia and Asia. During our daily design tasks we emphasise the importance of urban design quality no matter how small or large the design intervention. We deal with large and ambitious projects, including new cities in China, through to more subtle design changes in urban centres throughout Australia. The MUDD program has given me both an academic and professional framework to undertake different challenges in the important task of shaping cities and creating behavioural patterns in the urban environment.
