“There is a shortage of Planners” according to the report by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA), Findings and Recommendations of the National Inquiry into Planning Education and Employment, published in August 2004. The PIA inquiry observed that in addition to the current shortage “there will be a growing increase in the number of planners required in the next 5-10 years”.

Career


Planners are employed in a large variety of positions in many different organisations with some stake in the built environment. The major employment sectors are state and federal government departments (dealing with land use, development, transport, heritage, infrastructure, urban services etc), local councils, consultant planners, property companies, and environmental organisations.
