Unique Centre-Piece for ConnectED 2007 Conference
Students and staff of the Faculties of the Built Environment, COFA and Engineering joined forces in two Multi-Disciplinary (the theme of the ConnectED conference) electives this year. The first elective was hosted at COFA during February called Project X, a design workshop where one of the thirteen projects submitted was selected for fabrication during session 1, 2007 hosted by FBE in the Tramshed at Randwick.
The enormous snake sculpture, nick-named Ed was assembled as a centre-piece for the
ConnectED 2007 conference at the west of the Scientia down the steps towards Bronwyn Oliver’s Orb.
Course co-ordinator Graham Bell described the student experience as a positive one. “There were some philosophical differences as the students developed the frame and tried to make it structurally sound while maintaining the integrity of the design but overall we have found that the students like working together and have learnt a massive amount from each other.”
The project is successful in achieving its aim to give design students and construction students the practical skills to work together in the real world.
