Taking Flight
First Year Commencement Projects
This exhibition – taking flight – showcases the commencement project work of first-year students in all FBE undergraduate degree programs.
The ability to represent ideas, places, spaces, buildings, data, objects, information and concepts is valued and taught across the disciplines of the Faculty of the Built Environment. Indeed, in all FBE undergraduate degree programs – Architecture, Science (Architecture), Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Industrial Design, Planning and Building Construction Management – students begin learning how to construct drawings, sketches, models and graphic presentations from their first week in first year.
Students and staff guided the selection of project work from each of the first-year courses for this exhibition. The selections represent an energetic engagement by the 489 students in the 2006 first-year FBE community with their projects. This engagement has been guided by the eight course convenors and 21 tutors. Complementing the exhibition is a staff colloquium to discuss the advancement and improvement of FBE learning and teaching.
