2006-2007 Ku-ring-gai Town Centres
Pymble Town Centre
Issues
The following issues were identified for Pymble Town Centre:
- The main retail area is struggling and located on only one side of Grandview Street.
- The Pacific Highway severely limits access to the town centre and divides the area in two.
- There is very low density residential development.
Design Strategies
The design strategies focused on three main projects:- Grandview Street - develop a second side of ground floor retail outside the railway station to increase activity and take advantage of the easy access for south-bound traffic. New traffic lights and the realignment of the bridge at Station Street would improve access for north-bound traffic.
- Park Avenue - a new street designed as a green residential boulevard to connect the major open spaces. It would follow the valley line and include a drainage swale to collect storm water. The street would improve the residential amenity and increase residential density in the area.
- Robert Pymble Park - improvements to this existing park include; a major promenade creating a connection between the northwest district and the Railway Station. An interwoven swale forming a wetland at the two major intersections and the use of water sensitive urban design principles throughout the area. Accessibility would be improved with pedestrian and cyclist friendly access routes.
