“Good design happens when many good ideas come together for one purpose. Good design is undermined by the failure of the designer to anticipate the Environment. A good designer is always learning."

Project Summary

A compact, streamlined device that yachties will appreciate, the PowerCleat is a general cleating solution for fine lines (1.5–3 mm) where tails are long and have the potential to tangle. It is ideal for spinnaker halyards, but may be adapted to more general applications where long, fine lines require stowage. It is designed to be fixed on decks, masts or be mounted on sliding tracks for maximum versatility.

PowerCleat responds to the changing demands of rope management on sailing skiffs and sports boats. Modern ultra fine lines exhibit high strength and very low friction. The problem is no one can hold onto them.

Powercleat delivers a comfortable method of holding and adjusting small fine lines. In doing so sailors can use fine lines in place of heavier ones.

Powercleat takes advantage of the reduced volume delivered by the finer lines and spools the loose end automatically and safely. It does this by storing energy in a centrally located Powerspring each time the sailor reefs in line. This is used to gather up the slack. Powercleat can hold up to 8m of line
