Associate Professor Michael BoundsAssociate Professor, College of Social and Health Sciences, University of Western Sydney. Associate Professor Michael Bounds is a researcher in the School of Social and Applied Human Sciences at the University of Western Sydney. Between 1996 and 2002 he was head of the former School of Sociology and Justice Studies, stepping down in April 2002. He has worked as an urban sociologist for 20 years and has lectured widely throughout Australia and Europe. He is the author of 'Urban Social Theory' (OUP 2004). He has undertaken extensive research into public housing in Australia and the UK, and is the author of a number of articles and reports on housing and urban development. His recent research focuses on gentrification, development and cultural change in Pyrmont and Ultimo in Sydney, and the settlement of outer suburban master-planned estates in Sydney. He has also researched development in the 'Olympic Corridor' and the impact of the Sydney Olympics in this process. He is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and of the executive committee of the Housing and Urban Research Committee (RC 43) of the International Sociological Association (ISA). |
