Excelling in Design

Taught by the Faculty’s internationally recognized academics and renowned adjunct and visiting architects and professors, the M Arch Program is an effective way of elevating design excellence and disciplinary knowledge in architecture, as well as developing future leadership capacity in the profession, both locally and internationally.

The MArch Program provides students with a provocative intellectual experience, and world-class opportunities for real-life professional engagement in architecture. This is achieved through theoretical as well as practical urban projects in architectural design studios, and in intensive history and theory, and technology seminars.

Architects are expected to be at the forefront of imagination and creativity in conceiving the built form and to have an extensive understanding of people and sensitivity in designing for them. They are also expected to be both theoretically advanced and rigorously practical, to have thoroughly absorbed the lessons of architectural history, and cogent in their writings and critiques.

Furthermore, they need to demonstrate that they have advanced capabilities in presentation and visualisation, especially using contemporary digital media.

Such expectations are partially achieved through undergraduate education, partially through day-to-day work and experience, and partially through postgraduate education and professional development.

Postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of the Built Environment at UNSW through its internationally recognised academic and adjunct staff are an effective way to improve disciplinary knowledge and understanding.
