BPlan - Bachelor of Planning

BPlan

bachelor of planning / master of urban development and design

degree pathway for bplan/mudd

Planning and urban design have a natural complementarity as urban design emerges as a critical focus in planning studies and as urban design requires a broader interdisciplinary grounding of theory and practice.

This information summarises a Memorandum of Understanding between the Planning and Urban Development and Master of Development and Design Programs to enable BPlan students (Program 3360) with approval to construct their final year planning studies so as to enable substantial advanced standing for the MUDD Degree (Program 8131). The understanding recognises that equivalents to certain core courses in the MUDD degree including planning law, urban theory and recommended electives in the areas of economic development, heritage, metropolitan policy, sustainability, etc – are effectively covered across the 240UOC required for the BPlan degree. The resultant MUDD program which such BPlan graduates would undertake is primarily studio-based and builds progressively through studios of increasing sophistication culminating in a full summer term program, as required in both the current full time and part time MUDD programs.

The 72UOC required for the standard MUDD degree can be reduced by 24UOC to 48UOC through 18UOC in exemptions from core and elective courses and 6UOC of core courses being undertaken in the final year of the BPlan program as open electives. The MUDD program for such BPlan graduates retains its 3-semester structure but can be more readily undertaken on a part time basis.

A program of study for approved BPlan students entering the MUDD degree pathway is:
