admission criteria
Selection Criteria For Local Students
Approximately 45 students are admitted to the program each year. School leavers will be selected on the basis of their Universities Admission Index (UAI), or its interstate equivalent. All applicants for admission to the program must lodge their application with the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) by the designated date in the year before intending to commence studies.
The UAI cut-off for 2007:
- Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP): 75.00
- domestic fee-paying (DFEE): 70.00
Previous tertiary studies will be taken into account when assessing non school leaver applicants.
To determine advanced standing, students with previous qualifications may be required to submit a portfolio of work.
Recommended Knowledge
There are no formal prerequisite HSC subjects for admission to the program; however, Geography and Visual Arts are recommended.
Selection Criteria for International Students
All students must hold qualifications that are acceptable to the University for admission. In Australia these are normally assessed at the end of year 12 in the secondary education system. Students who do not hold acceptable qualifications may qualify for admission to UNSW by completing the UNSW Foundation Studies Certificate. The Certificate is offered by the University and is of one year duration. More information is available from the UNSW International Office.
To apply to UNSW, international students may use UNSW Apply Online to submit an online application or via UAC International.
