why study here
The UNSW Bachelor of Industrial Design program takes a holistic view to product development and is based on the belief that concerns for users, the environment, marketability, technology and engineering are all crucial to successful product design.
The degree was established in 1989 in response to the need for industrial design graduates capable of a high level of integration with industry.
The program prepares students for professional and executive employment in areas involving the research, design and development of manufactured products. Graduates are able to deal not only with the appearance and ergonomics of a product, but how to integrate engineering, design and marketing requirements. The program is operated in a Coop mode. As well as the Faculty staff, selected industrial and commercial companies will be involved in providing briefings, consultations, and evaluation of studio project work. Companies will have the opportunity to provide practical experience and recess employment to selected students.
The Faculty workshop facility, established solely for Industrial Design students, provides equipment and assistance to students in the production of their designs.
International Experience
In recent years, special exhibitions, design studios, summer and winter courses have given our students the opportunity to exhibit their design projects overseas and participate in international studios. Students can also partake in the international exchange program to complete part of their study in another country. These experiences broaden the life and academic depth of UNSW students and prepare them for intenational careers.
