One of the UNSW Built Environment’s greatest strengths is its diversity, not only in terms of its particular mix of disciplines, but also in its teaching staff, many of whom have distinguished professional as well as academic credentials.
Equally important is the Built Environment’s diverse, highly qualified and highly motivated student body whose engagement is so central to the success of our degree programs.

During one’s undergraduate career, depending on the particular degree program, the teaching and learning experience at Built Environment includes lectures, tutorials, studio projects, exhibitions, seminars, computer labs, field trips, research training and opportunities for directed individual study.

The Faculty’s programs are designed to be challenging and to encourage students to set and achieve high standards of performance as they progress through their degrees.

2009 Research Link Grants Program Winners


The Research link Grants Scheme provides a great opportunity for students to gain insight into research practice while developing research skills that will enhance future learning opportunities. The Faculty aims to promote and develop a research culture and the Research Link Grant Scheme, linking students to an experienced academic, is one aspect of the opportunities provided by the Faculty. The Faculty will be providing grants of $1000 for students to work with academic staff on staff-nominated research projects.

    Senior students volunteer to assist first year students, providing new students with advice and support through the initial stage of their life at university. For more information about the Peer Mentoring Program contact peermentoring@unsw.edu.au.

    Activities across years and programs encourage students in different stages of their degrees to help each other.

    Learning Support at UNSW


    UNSW offers a range of support to help student succeed in university.
    • UNSW Learning Centre provides a range of online academic skills resources such as essay writing, exam skills, reading and note taking to referencing and how to avoid plagiarism.
    • UNSW Compass Program provides individual counselling; program, workshops and seminars such as stress management, goals setting; and a range of self help resources

    Graduate Attributes


    Degree programs in the Faculty of the Built Environment are designed to be challenging and to build upon and stretch the skills that students bring to UNSW. We want our graduates to be creative and innovative in the larger society, and to do so with an appreciation of the social, economic, environmental and cultural settings in which they will be working. These aims are reflected in a statement of twelve Graduate Attributes.
