Linda joined the Faculty in mid-1999 as Head of the Program of Landscape Architecture having previously worked in private practice as a planner and landscape architect in the United States, Hong Kong and Australia. She held the position of Head of Program for four years (1999-2003). Following that, she served as FBE’s Head of School (2005-2005) and Associate Dean, International (2006) and Director, International and Community Engagement (2007).

During her tenure as Head of School, Linda initiated and implemented FBEOutThere!, a special management unit within the Faculty to undertake interdisciplinary, service learning activities and developed a generic elective template for these courses (2006). She also introduced and ran sessional staff induction workshops in conjunction with the UNSW Learning and Teaching Unit (2004-2005).

Linda contributes to University committees as a member of the UNSW Gender Equity Strategy Committee and on the Management Committee of the Australian Human Rights Centre based in the UNSW School of Law. She was active in the Women Research 21 Program (2000) and was one of 20 women from across UNSW selected for the inaugural Academic Women in Leadership Program (2006).

Areas of special interest and expertise include: people/place relationships, children’s play and learning environments, park and open space planning and design, design education and education for sustainability.

Teaching


Within the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program, Linda teaches
LAND1221 People: Place: Design; co-convenes LAND1322 Urban Landscape Design Seminar; and has taught various design studios in Years 1-3 of the Program. She has also convened a number of interdisciplinary service learning studios that engaged students from across the programs in the FBE on design projects with various community groups.
